Le 7 mars dernier, ma blonde et moi nous installons pour manger un souper de fondu en amoureux et c’est là que notre vie a basculé! Un accident est survenu dû au gel à fondu qui a explosé.
Ma première réaction fut de lui arracher son chandail, mais elle brûlait toujours. J’ai tout de suite pris la couverture sur le divan pour l’envelopper, mais dès que j’ai vérifié si le feu était éteint j’ai réalisé qu’elle était encore en feu. Je l’ai alors prise dans mes bras et j’ai couru jusque dans la douche. C’était l’horreur, je voyais la peau de son visage qui s’enlevait avec l’eau…environ 20 à 30 secondes se sont écoulées avant que le feu soit complètement éteint.
Elle fût transférée au Centre des grands brûlés à l’Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal et mise dans un coma temporaire. Le verdict est arrivé le lendemain. Brûlures au 2e et 3e degré sur le visage. Son cou, ses bras et son torse étaient brûlés au 3e degré. Une semaine plus tard, elle subissait plusieurs greffes de peaux. Les greffes ont été prises à même ses deux cuisses. Elle fût alors transférée au Centre de réadaptation Villa Médica de Montréal où elle devait suivre des traitements de physiothérapie, d’ergothérapie, de massothérapie et de psychothérapie. Elle a dû réapprendre à utiliser ses mains, ses avant-bras ainsi que son torse et son cou.
Nous sommes maintenant de retour à la maison. Elle suit toujours ses traitements au Centre de Réadaptation La Ressource à Hull. De plus, pour la prochaine année, elle doit porter 24/24 heures un vêtement compressé pour son cou, des gants pour ses mains, un chandail pour ses bras et son torse et un pantalon pour ses cuisses.
Tous ses traitements l’aideront avec sa mobilité dans l’accomplissement des tâches quotidiennes. Par contre, la peau brûlée ne sera plus jamais la même. Elle a trouvé un traitement au laser qui semble être miraculeux. Elle rêve de pouvoir suivre ces traitements, mais ils ne sont pas couverts par la RAMQ. Pour cette raison, j’ai décidé de faire appel à vous tous afin de m’aider à lui offrir les traitements et lui donner la chance de revenir le plus près possible de ce qu’elle était avant l’accident. Nous avons besoin de $50 000 pour couvrir toutes les dépenses. Suite au traitement, advenant qu’il reste un montant d’argent, celui-ci sera versé au nom d’Andréa Hartley à la Fondation des pompiers du Québec pour les grands brûlés. A ROMANTIC DINNER THAT TURNED INTO A NIGHTMARE

On March 7th, my girlfriend and I set up to eat a romantic fondue dinner and this is where our lives changed forever. An accident occurred due to the explosion of the fondue gel.
My first reaction was to tear her sweater off her back, but she was still on fire. I wrapped her in a blanket that was on the couch but as soon as I checked if the fire was out I realised that she was still on fire. I then took her in my arms and ran to the shower. The sight was horrific as I saw the skin on her face disintegrate in the water. Approximately 20 to 30 seconds passed by before the fire was completely out.
She was transferred to the Burn victims unit at the Hôtel-Dieu hospital in Montreal and she was placed in a temporary coma. The diagnosis arrived the next day. She had 2nd and 3rd degree burns on her face. Her neck, arms and trunk were burned to the 3rd degree. A week later, she underwent many skin grafts. The skin was taken from her two thighs. She was then transferred to the Villa Medica Center of Rehabilitation in Montreal where she had to follow physiotherapy, occupational therapy, massotherapy and psychotherapy. She had to learn again how to use her hands, forearms as well as her trunk and her neck.
We are now back home. She is still following her treatments at the Rehabilitation Centre La Ressource in Gatineau and for the next year she must wear a garment compressed for her neck, gloves for her hands, a sweater for her arms and her trunk and pants for her thighs 24 hours a day.
All these treatments will help her with her mobility to fulfill her daily tasks. On the other hand, the burned skin will never be the same. Through research, she discovered a laser treatment which is miraculous. She dreams of having these treatments but they are not covered by the Quebec health care insurance (RAMQ). For that reason, I decided to call upon you to help me offer her those treatments and to give her a better chance at returning as close as possible to where she was prior to the accident. We need $50,000 to cover all the expenses. Following the treatments, any money left over will be given back to the Fondation des Grands Brûlés under the name of Andréa Harley.
