On the morning of February 28, 2018, Green Chimneys Founder Dr. Samuel B. Ross, Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 89, in the Las Vegas home of his son. Dr. Ross was surrounded by family including Myra, his devoted wife, and partner in Green Chimneys, of 63 years.
For those of you that had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Ross, you are undoubtedly aware of his story and the many charitable contributions he made during his life. For those of you that know Dr. Ross through his family, you are also undoubtedly aware of the true joy, kindness and overall loving spirit his family brings to each other, you and our community.
The family asked "Rollo" what he wanted them to say to people when he passed away and without skipping a beat he replied, “Send money.”

In 1947, a young man who would come to be known by many as “Rollo,” set out to open a school on a farm in Brewster, New York. Seventy years later, Green Chimneys has helped thousands of children and animals. It is because of Rollo’s commitment to helping children, and a deep understanding of the precious ways humans and animals may help one another, that Green Chimneys is world renowned as a leader in therapeutic education and animal-assisted interventions for children with special needs.
While our hearts are heavy, we know that the best way to honor Rollo is to continue his vision. To share the stories of how students and animals are helped by Green Chimneys. And to ask others to join in ensuring children with special needs, and the animals who help them, are given ample opportunities to learn, heal and grow.
