Hi, my name is Liz. I've literally just turned 39, I have a beautiful 16 year old daughter and one tiny cockapoo called Maple.
I am trying to raise funds to buy the wheelchair that my body requires, if it was up to me, it would be cheap and cheerful, unfortunately the rest of me is a little more complicated! The wheelchair I currently own, I would love to say has served me well, but the frame has broken around 5 or 6 times and each time just throws me out, causing slight embarrassment, slightly more pain and a huge inconvenience! with the use of a frame I can probably walk the distance of a bus, but still have to stop once or twice in that process. But not many people carry frames on the back of their chairs just in case it decides to throw you out that day!
So, about me, I have Functional Neurological Disorder, (FND for short) which affects each individual differently. I have completely lost the use of my left leg, so when I say I can walk the distance of a bus, it is more of a step and slide. I have chronic pain, memory loss, chronic fatigue and a few other symptoms with it. I also have a degenerative spine, ocular myasthenia gravis, which affects the muscles in my eyes, I have depression, anxiety and mild agoraphobia. I also suffer from migraines and just been told I have sciatica now too. All good fun!
However, life is passing me by, I've had FND since my daughter was about 5 and she's now at that age where she's going off into the world.
I 1, don't want to hold her back, but 2, I want to regain some independence and create more of a future for myself. I've just started a degree which I am loving and hoping it will improve my memory function and help with my FND but who knows.
I would like to have some good experiences with my daughter that aren't ruined by my wheels. Just spend some quality time with her and for her to enjoy some of her life too with her friends, she has spent so long helping me, at the same time, I don't want to sit and watch the world go by without me anymore. I want to be able to go to the zoo with my best friend and her baby and take the dog for a walk and go for coffee with the girls and eventually go to my graduation-I hope!
I would really appreciate any help with any support, the funds will go towards a wheelchair which I had prescribed specifically for my body and my needs. I'm no size 0 and its difficult to lose weight when major limbs don't work, so it has to be of a certain specification for that alone, along with individual leg plates to support my hips, tilting function so I don't get pressure sores. it would also mean that the time that my daughter is left at home, I would be able to cook her dinners as it would lift up and down so I could reach the kitchen work tops and have a tight enough turning circle to use inside the home.
it really would change mine and my daughters life and
maples, more walks for her!
Very many thanks in advance, it honestly wont go unnoticed by any of us.
