RollinwithBREY is a 3100 mile bike ride from San Jose, Ca to Miami, Fl raising money and awareness around CP (Cerebral Palsy); a condition which Breyden suffers from today.
The ride will be completed by Breyden C.D. Carlson and his father Clint D. Carlson. Breyden will be responsible for 30% or 930 miles of the ride while his father will be responsible for 70% or 2,170 Miles. The 30/70 ratio was set as Breyden only has ~30% of spastic control over his muscles; his father will make up the difference of 70%.
What makes this ride so special is two-fold; First, Breyden will be attempting to set a Guinness Book of World Record for a person, adult or child, with Cerebral Palsy riding a recumbent bicycle for 930 miles. Secondly; and most important Breyden will get the life-saving stem cell therapy treatments himself. Today Breyden is a stage 4 of 5 (basically a quadriplegic) 5 being the worse and been given a 0% chance of walking in his lifetime.
Although the future looks bleak there is still hope! Stem cell therapy treatments are showing astronomical results and have taken children stage 5 of 5 down to a stage 1, 2 or 3; So what does this mean? At stage 1 or 2 Breyden walks unassisted! This is our goal, to give Breyden what most of us take for granted every day; the ability to walk.
Stem cell therapy treatments aren't cheap and can cost upwards of $50,000 for a single treatment with a strong possibility that multiple treatments will be needed. A small donation will help this beautiful boy walk someday and what a gift that will be!
Obviously, no small undertaking but am certainly up for the challenge and am confident we will succeed.
