Hello to All,
My name is Roland St. Gelais (if you don't know me already) and I have been in a battle with cancer since June of 2016. It all began with the diagnosis of non Hodgekin's lymphoma. The treatments started late June 2016 and were completed in October. Five months after treatments symptoms of the disease reoccurred. Further testing in March 2017 showed that the non Hodgekin's lymphoma was in remission but I was now diagnosed with Classic Hodgekin's lymphoma. Treatments began in early June 2017 and will continue through October.
To further complicate matters, I contracted a mycobacterial infection which requires long term treatment with a series of 3 antibiotics. (This occured when my immunity was at its lowest last summer) Due to this infection there is a delicate balance of treatment for the two conditions which must be closely monitored.
Since the onset of this Classic Lymphoma dignosis, the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL has agreed to consult and monitor my case. Their final recommended treatment is a stem cell transplant. Once I am in remission, they would perform this procedure at their facility here in Jacksonville.
In the meantime, I have found it necessary to retire from my music teaching position as it would be impossible to work full time while undergoing the necessary treatments. With a significantly lower income (Social Security and small pension), mounting medical bills and insurance, along with a basic cost of living, it is impossible to meet the increase in my monthly financial expenses.
Any and all donations of support would help to reduce additional stress associated with required ongoing treatments and avoid a financial crisis.
