Rohans Road To Recovery

Donation protected
This is my cousin Rohan Spencer who was an ambitious, hardworking, humble and very loving and caring person who offered his time and assistance to anyone who needed it. Rohan was born and raised in Jamaica and went to the USA in 2005 on a student visa and spent two years in college whilst being independent and working three jobs to make sure he had funds to support himself. Six months before he was due to graduate in business studies, he had a stroke (right side paresis) at the age of 32 and was hospitalised, he then subsequently contracted a sinus infection whilst in hospital which led to him being comatosed for 8 weeks.   The doctors established that the bone flap in his skull was infected and removed it leaving this section of his brain exposed. He needed to have a plate fitted to protect this portion of his brain, however he was not insured for any further surgical procedures (Please see photo). Rohan woke up out of the coma and could not talk and had lost his memory (short and long term), He had also lost all of his motor functions starting from his right shoulder down his right leg to his right foot and the only way to get around was in a wheelchair. Rohan because despondent and very low in spirits deemed himself useless at this point with all these medical issues causing severe concern and stress to his life but he never gave up and was determined to make an effort to try and get back on his feet.  With the therapy, exercise, his faith and determination he started to improve his condition within a month. Rohan’s condition has been complicated by seizures which can last up to 20 minutes and with this he requires anti-seizure medication to assist with controlling the seizures. Rohan was sent back home to Jamaica and acquired a medical helmet to protect his brain from further injury and managed to wear this helmet for a short time, however he has found it extremely difficult to wear this helmet due to the weather climate in Jamaica and therefore currently has no form of protection for that part of the brain.  He's in pain all the time and struggles to speak and his balance and mobility are still impaired. He can't work, drive and still suffers memory loss but the major factor with Rohan is you will never hear him complain even though he has no income and does not ask for help in times of hardship. I am appealing for your help to try and raise enough funds for the surgical procedure needed to get a plate put in to protect his brain  At this time we estimate the cost to do this surgery is in the region of £30000.00 to include the plate, flights, accommodation, consultation, procedure and aftercare if he were to travel to the USA or UK. We would be exceptionally grateful for any small donations that you could make in assisting Rohan on his road to recovery so that he can get a small part of his life back.
