Donation Fund for Rogerio Araujo De Oliveira

First, we want to thank everyone who has reached out so far. Rogerio really has so many of the most amazing and supportive friends! (Click Read More)

We know that everyone wants to know what is going on and how they can reach Rogerio. Hopefully this letter will answer many of your questions including what happened, how you can support him, and what we think will happen next.

Rogerio is such a sunshine and really is putting his trust in God. He is staying positive and strong even though it is all really scary.

Rogerio has always been there for all of us. As family and friends we all know of his unconditional love and contagious laughter.

He has given so much in spirit and resources to anyone and everyone that has needed him. His positive attitude, hard work, and determination to always make things happen are the qualities that make it easy to love him and be in his light.

He is such a loving father, step-father, and husband. We are trying our best to do everything that we can to make sure that he has every opportunity possible to get better and be comfortable while going through this process.

We miss him so much and our house is not a home without him here.

We are extremely pained to say that Rogerio is currently battling Stage 4 Lung Cancer that has metastasized to his bones which has stopped his body from producing blood.

His situation is critical and he needs constant treatment. His doctors fear he has only 2 months unless we can find the right treatment.

He currently undergoes multiple blood transfusions everyday to stay alive.

At this point, Rogerio has been in the hospital for 2 weeks. We are trying to get him stable and home as he wishes to be surrounded by family and friends.

Everything has happened as a shock. Rogerio felt like he was in good health except a with a bit of back pain in the last few weeks. Everyone assumed the back pain was due to working hard as Rogerio is such a dedicated stone veneer installer and the pain only happened when he spent a lot of time resting.

The night of his 44th Birthday, Rogerio was feeling chest pain and we decided that he should be taken to the Emergency Room.

It was the right call because we soon found out that his heart was struggling to pump due to fluid building up around his heart and lungs.

As tests were being run (EKG, ECHO, blood panels, CAT Scans, MRIs, biopsies, etc), it became apparent that the fluid build up was a symptom of something scarier than we expected.

On Rogerio's & Sasha's 2nd Anniversary, we all found out that Rogerio has developed an aggressive and dangerous cancer. There were so many emotions that day, but being forced apart with devastating news on a day of joy was incredibly hard.

The oncologists say that the cancer started around his lungs (Lung Cancer) but it quickly went straight for his bones. They also say that it is uncommon to happen so fast. This is why Rogerio didn't feel any of the usual symptoms and made it impossible to catch earlier.

What makes this metastases so scary is that it is shutting down his bone marrow and keeping his body from making and keeping blood cells.

At this time, contacting him can be challenging because of the speed at which the doctors need to work or how he feels. Visits are not allowed at this time.
(Please keep reading below about visitation if we can get him home.)

What we think coming home will look like:

The oncologists have made it really clear to us that Rogerio coming home will depend on a few things:
- being stable enough to receive treatment at home
- needing to go to the hospital daily for blood transfusions
- needing a specific type of Nurse to visit daily
- needing an oxygen tank and other medical equipment to monitor his condition

This will take a lot of time and energy from Sasha and making sure that she also gets to spend as much time as possible with Rogerio. She will most likely need to not work in order to make Rogerio's wish happen and be ready for any situation.

We are not sure how we will schedule visits, but please do coordinate with Sasha when we can start. We will expect that you wear a mask, wash hands, and are certain to not be sick (not just C  19, but any type of sickness like a cold or sore throat can be extremely dangerous for Rogerio).

THANK YOU again for everyone who has reached out and is able to support Rogerio. Rogerio really does have the most incredible family and friends.

We are trying our best to get back to all of you who reach out. Rogerio might not be always available and Sasha needs to make sure that she moves fast to get Rogerio the best chances possible and organize meetings with top oncologists as time is of the essence. Rest assured, we will get back to you all!

Much love,

De Oliveira Family
