On August 27, 2020 Roger was a passenger of a 4 passenger airplane that crashed on takeoff at a local Redding Airport. It left him critically injured and burned.He is still critical at UCD Medical Center's Burn ICU and expected to be there 7-8 months in total and then will need intensive physical therapy for many months. He broke both femurs, had abdominal bleeding and burns to 80% of his body. He has already had a dozen surgeries for his injuries. At 3 weeks in he required a below the knee amputation of the left leg for life saving measures and he will likely have particle amputations of his fingers. Its expected he will have approximately 18-20 more surgeries along the way.Roger is awake and able to communicate. His face looks amazing and is healing very well. He had all his hair, eyebrows, eye lashes. His nose and lips were not burned.
He gives 150% to anything and everything he does and with a great attitude. Roger is my son. He is 24 and has been working hard towards a career as an airline pilot. Along the way, putting himself through training at ATP Flight School for necessary credentials to help meet that goal. Roger is a hard worker, a great friend and fun loving. In addition to flying, he loves all sorts of gaming, Dungeons and Dragons making videos and editing, discussing philosophy and audio books.watch the following attached video. I and Roger's FAMILY are sad to announce that Roger could not overcome the huge mountain of recovering from his injuries.
His brother and I were both by his side as well as a favorite nurse Andy.
Roger was so encouraging and supportive of students and other new pilots, that monies from the GoFundMe will be used to help students with loads of determination, a love for flying and a dream to be a pilot.
