A brother in green in need of our help.
Rodrigo (Rod) Rivera
Currently a Tucson Agent, Class #269. Rod has been in the patrol for 26 years and has been assigned to several stations to include Imperial Beach and Casa Grande.
This is a very difficult time for Rod and his family. Unfortunately, they have just learned that his cancer has returned. Rod has a rough road ahead with treatments and the uncertainty of the situation.
We are asking for your support for a brother in green as he battles this disease. Any donation that you can make to help one of our own would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a little back story; in 2008 Rod was diagnosed with cancer. He received several treatments to include surgery to remove a softball sized tumor in his small intestine. At that time it was discovered that it had metastasized to his liver. Rod spent several weeks in the hospital. This was a very difficult time for the family physically, emotionally and financially.
After the doctors determined he was healthy enough, he began treatments called chemoembolization (hepatic artery embolization) using heat and chemo to treat and stop the blood supply to the tumors. This procedure was done in Oct. 2008, Dec. 2010, and Nov. 2011. Rod also scheduled CT scans, MRI, sonograms, and x-rays two times a year so doctors could monitor any new growths.
In Nov. 2014 doctors found a metastic neuroendocrine tumor that had metastasized to his kidney. Surgery was successful and the kidney has been clear since then.
During this time Rod has continued to work and support his family only taking time off for appointments and procedures, despite the side effects from shots and medications. His positive attitude and courage inspires his family and coworkers daily.
Rod had been stable until recently. In October of this year scans revealed that his tumors had grown in size. As difficult as it was to accept his fate, Rod went through the chemoembolization (hepatic artery embolization) procedure again. Thankfully, everything went well and he is home healing for the next few weeks.
On Rod’s behalf, he would like to thank his wife Leslie and son Max, his parents, sister and brothers for their love and support during this difficult time.
