Friends and Family, it has been almost 35 years since my first study abroad experience. Though I only traveled to the country next door, Canada, the experience changed my life; and launched me on the personal and professional path that has since taken me all over the world, including my current home in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.

My wife (Ayele) and I, among others, recently launched the first United World College (UWC) Togo National Committee - www.tg.uwc.org - to give kids from Togo (a country with approx. 750 USD per capita income) the opportunity to study abroad as a part of the UWC movement.

As you may know, the mission of UWC is to use education as a force to unite people, nations and cultures by bringing more than 100 nationalities together in each of its 18 campuses around the world. In addition, approximately 70 percent of the students are on scholarship and must be selected by one of the 155 national committees (now 156 with the addition of UWC Togo).

This will be the first time Togolese students are eligible for scholarships and we are excited by the chance to connect deserving students from Togo to this powerful movement!

For my birthday (December 12th ), in lieu of taking me out for dinner or drinks, the best birthday wish or present you could give me would be to support this effort with a kind donation. 100 percent of your gift will go towards supporting these students. And we will let you know once they are selected and off to a life changing experience in 2020!
