In Nov 2017 our son Rod began to experience pain in his chest. At the time he thought it was just a pulled muscle. When it continued to get worse he went to the Doctor to get chest x-rays. After multiple visits they still did not know what was causing the pain.
Finally in April they did a CAT scan and discovered a tumor on Rod’s sternum. From the initial diagnosis of Sarcoma it advanced to the aggressive form of Chondrosarcoma within weeks.
His first surgery began May 29th. He had his sternum removed and replaced with a cadaver bone. Unfortunately his body developed an infection and he had to have a second surgery to remove the cadaver bone. He then had to have a third surgery to fill the hole where his sternum was. The only option was to use his stomach, pectoral and back muscles. They will over time fuse together and form scar tissue. After his first surgery the biopsy results came back as Dedifferentiated Chondrosarcoma which is Stage 4 Cancer.
Since his last surgery Rod has been in and out of the hospital due to reactions to medications, complications with breathing and recurring fevers. He has been in intense pain for months.
Unfortunately, due to his numerous visits to the hospital and the complications from his surgery, Rod has been unable to work. His medical as well as personal bills are continuing to build.
Many have asked how they can help and at this point donations will help relieve some of the financial burden that he is incurring. We want Rod to be able to focus on healing his body and moving forward with his life.
Rod and his daughter Jenna appreciate all of the love and support they have received during this difficult time.
