Rockport Artist Victim of Hurricane

Donation protected

Marilyn Herzik liquidated all of her assets to retire in Rockport. At 67 years of age, she was fullifilling her dream of living off of her art. Her art work is her soul income. On August 25th this dream was destroyed by Harvey , a category four hurricane. Her home and art studio sustained a large amount of damage. There are large holes in the roof that have been tempoarily covered with plastic tarps. Allof her windows are broken and covered tempoarily with plywood. Her home was saturated due to a four foot water surge. Her siding was also damaged with pieces missing. Her art studio is a total loss. The studio roof is gone and all of the studio windows are broken..The studio is not safe to enter and all of her art supplies are inside. We were able to save a few paintings through a broken window, but her supplies will need to be replaced. In addition, one of her fences are broken which is a cause for concern due to there are alligators in the pond behind her home. Her safety plus the safety of her elderly dog are a great concern. It is our hopes to make her home livable again. Any funds that are raised will be used to be replace the art supplies so that she can paint again due to this being her soul income. We also will do some repairs to her home and replace her fence. At some point we hope to replace her art studio but for now having a home is our of more concern.  She will continue to paint in her home once it is repaired.
