We are Rockford Public School students and we made history.
We’ve been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall. The performance, conducted by renown Haitian composer Sydney Guillaume, is part of a special event celebrating his music and will be hosted in May 2020.
This is a profound honor for each one of us. And we want to make the most of this opportunity, because it’s more than a concert in New York. It’s a statement about who we are as a community and who we can become.
Thanks to our incredible choir teachers, Daniel Beetstra (Auburn High School), Beth Heuer (Auburn High School), Dylan Ladd (West Middle School) and the CAPA Program, we can participate in this historic performance and music residency. The CAPA Program made this possible - because it brought us together around the arts and gave us a purpose and dream.
For some of us, it will be the first time we’ve ever left Illinois. For others, it will be the first time we’ve ever traveled outside of the Greater Rockford Area.
This honor is something we share with our city. It’s come after thousands of hours of hard work and practice, and a lot of time and energy invested from our families. And we have more work to do.
Your gift will help us make Rockford proud. It will allow us to share what we’ve learned on one of the most prestigious stages in the world. In partnering with us, we will be able to make a significant cultural impact.
We are asking people to partner with us to make history together. Your financial donations will allow us to make the the trip and performance at Carnegie Hall happen and allow us to share our story along the way. This is a once in a lifetime lifetime opportunity - not just for a few kids to perform in a storied concert hall, but for our school district to be represented with dignity, our city to be proud, and our community to stand united.
