Last year, a group formed among the laypeople of our local parishes, impassioned to bring an authentically Catholic concert to Duluth. The vision was to create an event that would inspire people of all faith backgrounds to better understand and appreciate the beauty of the Catholic faith. The fruit of much prayer and planning was Built Upon a Rock Fest, a free outdoor Catholic concert held on the grounds of the Cathedral in Duluth on September 17, 2017. The inaugural event drew in over 900 people, young and old, from across the Diocese and surrounding area. The audience enjoyed free food and stunning live performances from nationally known Catholic artists, all with the backdrop of beautiful Lake Superior. The music was uplifting and inspiring. Many were encouraged in their faith and led to a deeper love of Jesus Christ and His Church.

After discernment, and in response to overwhelmingly positive feedback, we believe it is God’s will for this event to occur annually. With faith in God, we have booked the bands for year two and are in the planning process. Check out our website builtuponarockfest.com for details on this year's bands and event schedule. Last year we were blessed with the immense generosity of so many....raising nearly $25,000! The amount raised covered our needs perfectly, leaving us with just $300 leftover after all expenses paid.

Built Upon a Rock Fest relies solely on donations from individuals, parishes, businesses and organizations. We are an official non profit 501 (c) (3) organization, which means all contributions are tax deductible. Based on the expenses from last year, the estimated cost of Built Upon a Rock Fest 2018 is $25,000. It would be a blessing to exceed that amount in donations in order to grow our budget for future years, as there are several higher-budget bands we’d like to consider. Though our goal seems large, nothing is large for God! We have faith that He will inspire people to financially support this mission in order to build His Church.
