As for many women living with cancer, losing her hair was a difficult part of the treatment process. Although she knew losing her hair meant that she was working towards healing, it was a visible reminder to herself and to the world that she was sick. Her first trip to the wig store with her daughter and sister was an emotional one, but she was lucky enough to be able to pick out a beautiful wig that helped her feel pretty, confident, and like herself. It was not unusual for others to stop Robin in public to compliment her hair style and color, not knowing that it was a wig. Other patients at her treatment center also often stopped her to comment about how they were surprised that she never lost her hair because the wig looked so real.
Although not every woman living with cancer chooses to wear wigs, which is also a wonderful and beautiful choice, some women wish to have this opportunity, but cannot financially afford to do so. When Robin looked around her cancer treatment center, she often commented that one day when her treatment journey was over, she wanted to donate her wigs to other women to aid in their journey. Therefore, in addition to donating her current wigs, the family has decided to purchase as many wigs as possible to donate on Robin’s behalf. If you feel comfortable doing so, we will ensure that the money goes towards benefiting other women with cancer in Robin’s honor.
