On August 27, my mom , Robin Flores, woke up with 3/4 of her vision completely gone in her left eye.
Her retina had detached from her eye and she had to have emergency surgery.
Her new insurance was kicking in September 1, just four days away and she wanted to wait because she knew she could not afford out of pocket surgery. Her optometrist said that it could not wait because the damage could be permanent and irreversible. We had to come up with $1600 that day to just cover pre-op requirements and schedule surgery for the next day.
On August 28 she had a surgical procedure to have a belt put around her eye to hold the retina in place. After surgery the Dr. said that hers was one of the worst cases of retina detachment he has seen and that it was a miracle that her vision was restored.
The amount being raised is what it cost (uninsured) to have the eye surgery.
My mom is one of the most giving and kind hearted people in this world. She helps those in need and never asks or wants anything in return. But my mom is the one who needs help now with these unexpected medical expenses. if you could find it in your heart to lessen the financial stress, it would mean a lot!
