Remembering Robert

Donation protected
While traveling abroad in Zambia with his family, my brother Robert Monger tragically suffered a heart attack and a stroke. Medical care in Zambia is pay-as-you-go and the expenses have quickly exceeded our ability to afford them. We are struggling to pay for his basic medical care and desperately need assistance to ensure that Robert receives adequate care for his condition.

Robert took his wife Patricia, his two sons Cheyenne and Nasir, and his mother-in-law Gale on an extended trip to Zambia to fulfill a life-long dream of visiting Africa.  This dream has sadly turned to tragedy and now he is in dire medical straits half a world away.

Our primary goal is to raise enough money to get Robert well enough to travel back to the states to recover.  Once he is fit to fly however, we will face the daunting and excruciatingly expensive journey to fly to him home. Should he require an air ambulance, the flight could cost tens of thousands of dollars.

At this time, Robert is not able to speak and eats primarily from a feeding tube.  He initially lost all movement on his right side but thankfully has started to regain mobility in his right arm. He is regaining his awareness and is able to communicate by nodding his head. Robert will require extensive therapy and faces a long road ahead to recovery.

After several weeks in ICU, thankfully Robert has recovered enough to be moved to a regular room.  His room is on a floor that is literally called the High Cost Ward. As the name suggests, this ward is costly, but it is also necessary in order to give Robert care that is comparable to what he would receive at home.

My brother Robert is a devoted husband, a dedicated father, and a proud Army veteran with a contagious smile. He dances with all of his soul, laughs with all of his spirit, and loves with all of his heart. Patricia, his wife of 25 years, has been by his side tirelessly managing the challenges and adversities of his healthcare abroad.

Due to shortages and strains on the health care system, she often spends hours traveling around town to various pharmacies looking for medicines or taking his blood samples to private labs to get expedient, life-saving results. In order for her to continue to ensure Robert is getting the best care, we desperately need assistance.

We humbly plead for your support to help Robert on his path to recovery. Please help us bring Robert home.
