Help Robert Fight Cancer!!!

Donation protected

This sweet, gentle boy is Robert Burns.
Robert is a fun filled 14 yr old who loves playing sports, especially Lacrosse.
What has taken place over the past 8 weeks is almost impossible to imagine.
As I write this I am still in shock and disbelief.

In early January 2015 Robert started feeling pain while he was playing and running.
The doctor found a growth in his knee and on Jan 22 he had surgery to remove what was thought to be a minor mass.

Ten days later his world changed forever. Robert was diagnosed with a very rare cancer, Monophasic Synovial Cell Sarcoma, a cancer of the soft tissue. All focus immediately turned to cancer specialists and possible treatments. He is being seen by an amazing team of Doctors at Children's hospital here in Colorado.

Robert's cancer is very rare and very aggressive which means the Dr's have to be even more aggressive in their treatment and attempts to save him.

Just over 2 weeks later on Feb 25, 2015 the Doctors determined that in order to stop the spread and save Robert's life, the most effective way to treat this cancer is to remove it by amputating his leg below the hip.

Trying to keep his leg and treating the cancer with radiation would result in extreme permanent damage to his leg, essentially ending future growth of the leg. Robert would have lifelong pain in a leg that would not continue to grow with him. More importantly, if the cancer survives and spreads from his leg to the rest of his body it will almost certainly cost Robert his life.
That is simply not an option.
As life changing as amputating his leg will undoubtedly be, saving Roberts life is the highest priority.

Robert's surgery will take place on Monday, March 16th. The family is asking for prayers for him as he goes into surgery as well as for his recovery. This will be an incredibly long and difficult journey, but for everyone who knows Robert, you know that he is a strong and resilient young man.

It is very difficult for people to ask for help, even when they need it most. As friends of Allison and Robert, we have set up this account to help them with the overwhelming current and upcoming medical expenses that are now part of their daily lives.

Allison is doing an amazing job as a single working mom raising her boys, but the costs for all the doctors, procedures, medicines, and prosthetics he will need are mounting every day. Robert will be fit with his prosthetic leg in approximately 6 to 8 weeks, and they're estimating the cost of that alone to be in the thousands.

Friends, imagine how drastically this little boy's life has already changed in just 8 weeks, and will continue to change. This family needs our help to get them through this overwhelmingly difficult time.

Robert still has so much life to live, and his journey is just beginning! We love them so much and I know that Allison appreciates and loves each and every person who reads Roberts story. He is a fighter, her sweet son, and we will fight with him!

We thank you all for your love, support and prayers.

Thank you so much!!!
