Robert Nelson Memorial & Family Expenses

On April 7, 2021, Robert Nelson (35 years old) was viciously stabbed to death at a homeless camp in Abbotsford, British Columbia, and was pronounced deceased at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

The donations will go towards funeral expenses, travel expenses, other expenses for Robert’s family, as well as a memorial in his honor. We are hoping justice will be served and the family will be able to travel to attend the court proceedings of the person(s) who committed this violent offence.

This is the second child/sibling that his family has lost in the past 2 years due to a drug-related death, as his younger sister committed suicide during her struggle with drug addiction.

For the three years prior to Robert’s death, he was homeless and addicted to drugs. As most people do, he had personal problems which he was struggling to deal with and had turned to drugs in an attempt to escape. His deep sense of pride kept him from reaching out to his family for help. He chose to isolate in homelessness to protect his family from being hurt by watching his addiction. He fought hard prior to his death to achieve a reduction in drug use that would allow him to receive treatment of an opioid blocker and begin the long journey of treatment. Unfortunately, his life was stole a week prior to the scheduled treatment date.

Robert was a kind and caring person. He was a profound human being that had a positive impact on everyone that was lucky enough to have encountered him. He had a heart of gold and helped everyone he could. He had a contagious laugh, full of spirit, and a true go-getter. He loved spending time with his family. He loved camping, hiking, fishing, and outdoor adventures in the mountains.

Robert truly loved all of his family and held them close and dear to this heart. His family deeply loved him also. He is survived by his mother Angie Nelson, three siblings, and two children, his maternal grandparents, his uncle’s family, many cousins and distant family. His family is based in Alberta and Saskatchewan. It is with great sadness that Robert’s family now mourns the loss of Robert’s life. Robert continues to be the Guardian Angel forever protecting his family.

Robert always worked hard at everything he set his mind to. He was very active in sports as a child and teenager. He was a well decorated and achieved Wrestler in High School. He won many city, provincial, and invitational competitions including winning Gold in the National Wrestling Association competition in 2001. As an adult he continued his love for the sport, trained in Grappling, Jiu Jitsu, Kick Boxing, and Boxing and fought in various Mixed Martial Arts competitions throughout the Western Provinces. His family and friends very much enjoyed and had the honor of watching him compete in both wrestling and MMA.

He also worked hard and supported himself and his family at various jobs including CIBC Bank and StarTek until he realized he was better suited as a laborer doing construction and concrete finishing for most of his life.

Every bit counts. Angie Nelson is Robert's next-of-kin and in charge of funeral and alike expenses.

In mourning and grief, his mother Angie Nelson has created a Facebook Page “Alliance Against Drug Addiction” to positively commemorate her son. Please feel free to join and spread the word.
