Robbie is a proud Kunja man from Bourke that has been living and working in Dubbo for many years. Robbie is 36 years old, a loving husband to Melissa and father to their three beautiful children Destyn (12), Azael (10) and Amayha (6).
Robbie is a passionate community member and an ambassador for family violence. He coordinates and participates in a number of local activities with children, youth and there extended families. Robbie has a love for football and is a passionate Life Memebr of his beloved Dubbo Westside Rabbitohs Club.
A few weeks ago Robbie went to the doctors with back pain and the doctors found a lump on his kidney. On the 9th October 2017 Robbie was admitted to Dubbo Base Hospital to undergo day surgery to remove the tumour,
unfortunately the operation didn’t go according to plan and while they were trying to remove the tumour the doctor cut into his aorta artery and he lost a lot of blood and had to be stabilised before being airlifted to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney in an induced coma. As the initial surgery didn’t go to plan, the tumour has still not been removed. In Sydney, Robbie was diagnosed with Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma (ACC). ACC, is an aggressive cancer originating in the cortex (steroid hormone-producing tissue) of the adrenal gland. ACC is a rare cancer, with 1–2
people diagnosed per million annually.
Robbie is currently on extended leave from work recovering from surgery. Robbie will need to undergo more surgery at the end of November in Sydney and ongoing treatment. As you can appreciate this has taken a large financial and emotional toll on not only Robbie, but his wife and 3 children.
