Reassess Roath Brook Flood Scheme

Help us raise money to pay for the expert advice needed to save the trees and ground in two historic parks in Roath, Cardiff.
Since February 2017, local residents have been campaigning to prevent National Resources Wales from felling over 30 trees in Roath Mill and Roath Brook Gardens in Cardiff to make way for flood works in an area which has historically, never flooded.
We believe that Natural Resources Wales have not properly considered all options available, have misled the public with inaccurate figures during their consultation period and that it is unnecessary to bulldoze park grounds in order to widen the channel of the brook and remove mature trees in the process.
We want to save the trees and ground in Roath Mill and Roath Brook Gardens in order to preserve the character of the area, minimise ecological damage and protect the habitats of our local wildlife.
Since flood works began in 2017, residents have seen many mature trees removed in adjacent Waterloo Gardens, and witnessed the devastation of a beautiful park. We now have a chance to stop these works spreading further upstream.
Residents' campaigns and protests have led to a halt in felling since December 23rd, and only 5 trees being felled to date in Roath Mill and Roath Brook Gardens. We want to keep it this way, and have been in discussions with NRW about how we can move forward.
NRW have agreed to pause works for 4 months, while we appoint our own professionals to review the hydrology and hydraulic model they used to predict the flood risk in these two parks. We want to look at the options they used to select the current flood scheme design and, if appropriate, submit new evidence for a less invasive flood scheme for the area.
NRW has committed to consider any new evidence prior to making a decision on how to progress.
We've already found some well qualified experts, but now we need to fundraise to pay their fees. We'll be organising some community events that locals can take part in, but we realise that attending those might not be possible for everyone who supports this campaign.
Can you help? Just a small donation from each of our supporters may be enough to enable our experts to prove what residents have said all along - that this scheme is unnecessary and that there are other, less destructive options available to mitigate the perceived flood risk to this area.

As this is an ongoing project, the amount to be raised stated above is currently an estimate, and may increase or decrease. Should there be any surplus funds at the end of the project, we will engage with the community as to how this is spent - whether that be funding facilities in the parks themselves or donated to an approriate environmental charity or charities.
