Riley turn 6 in August and was diagnoised in February with Essential Thrombocythemia and a gene mutation that causes his body to make to many platelets. This is a slow growing blood cancer and is said to think of this as a chronic luekemia. This is extremely rare in kids it usually is diagnoised in people in their 60's. His doctors have found no known studies of this is in kids so far now all his treatment is experimental. He takes the oral suspension of Hydroxyurea ( chemo medicine) daily, he does monthly lab draws to monitor his platelets that run high. If they are to high it can cause blood clots to form and cause a stroke. He will undergo a minimum of a yearly bone marrow biopsy to keep a check on his bone marrow. We are raising money to set aside in case there is something his state Medicade wont cover.
