"It has been said many times, “There are no accidents.” Well, about two weeks ago, THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT. Our friend, Katie Lyons was driving in Nashville. As she approached the intersection, a bicyclist came up on her left side quite close to her vehicle. She noticed this and immediately took caution to ensure the safety of the rider, only to drift into the intersection against the light. The result: Her vehicle was T-boned in the passenger door.
Katie was shaken but not severely injured. However, a day or so later, she decided that it would be a good idea to visit her chiropractor to have any necessary adjustments. The Chiropractor, erring on the side of caution, sent Katie for an x-ray to determine if there were any unknown fractures before attempting to administer treatment.
The x-ray showed that all was well with the structure of her bones. However, it also revealed a spot on her right upper lobe (her lung). She experienced absolutely no symptoms alerting her to this. Katie has since had examinations, a PET Scan, and a subsequent biopsy. Our fears were realized: Katie has a spot of lung cancer which, taking the auto accident out of this story, results in a much more dangerous stage of the cancer and a much more involved treatment plan.
Bottom line, Katie is now battling Stage 1A non small cell lung cancer.
I speak from experience when I say, I know what she is going through. Once you are told you have cancer, everything takes a back seat. I can also attest to the fact that facing this alone is a challenge the likes of which no one should have to endure.
I do not claim to have any answers for this. But I do know that it will take everything she can muster to battle this on her own. Katie needs our help.
She is fortunate to have health insurance but as we all know, there will be deductibles, exclusions, extras (such as transportation to and from treatments, etc.) that are not covered expenses. All this AND her vehicle is totaled.
Anything that you would be able to do to help would be greatly appreciated.
As I mentioned in the beginning, there are no accidents. There are blessings that come at us from all sides. If you are able, share a blessing with Katie and help her get through this battle she now faces."
