Road to Edinburgh

We are thrilled to announce that Are You Alice has been selected to perform a 2 week run at the ubiquitous Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland this summer! We will be performing at C Venues Aug 14th-26th, and your donations will help us get there.  Our goal is to raise $30,000 to help offset the costs of housing and transportation.  

We are a not-for-profit theatre group dedicated to ensemble-based, multidisciplinary works focused on the twin principles of communication and empathy. We are proudly female-led and female-centric (whilst also being non-binary inclusive.) Our talented contributors come from diverse creative backgrounds that have allowed us to imbue our work with more than the standard black-box tropes. These include, but are not limited to, award-winning actors, writers, musicians, representatives of the internationally recognized Puppet Kitchen, graduates of the world-renowned Actors Studio Drama School directing program, associates of Edinburgh Festival success-story Ophelia Theatre, and many more.

Permafrost Theatre Collective  officially began in November 2018 during the year long process of developing our first devised work, Are You Alice: A New Wonderland Tale. Inspired by the Franz Kafka quote “a book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us,” the collective strives to push that sentiment into the theatrical realm. We seek to create work that breaks through the permafrost of collective mundanity to access a common understanding of life, love, and expression within all of us.

Our current work in development is Are You Alice: A New Wonderland Tale, a modern meditation on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice” novels.  Each member of the cast presents a different take on “Alice” leading the audience on a journey through Wonderland, experiencing both the familiar and unfamiliar. Our interpretation of the material breaks through the icy facade that has become the zeitgeist surrounding Carroll’s work of late, asking new questions of the text. Why do we feel like children in the adult world? Do our fantasies give us agency, or take it away? Who or what are our own personal Jabberwocks? 

All iterations of this project have been created with a limited budget, and yet have succeeded in delighting audiences, providing fair artist stipends, and raising funds for future development. With your help, we can develop the show and take it to places we never thought possible.
