<div>Our beautiful daughter Emily was once a joyful and energetic little girl. But at around 16 months old, we began to notice subtle changes  her balance faltered, her words slowed, her steps became uncertain. Before we knew it, the world we knew had changed forever. Emily has been diagnosed with Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD), a rare and devastating progressive neurodegenerative disorder caused by a tiny mutation in the PLA2G6 gene, which impairs the body’s ability to protect brain cells. This cruel disease slowly robs children of their ability to move, speak, see, and eventually even swallow. At present, there is no approved cure or treatment.

<div>Like many families fighting this disease, we refuse to lose hope.

<div>Emily’s condition is heartbreaking, but science has reached a point where real hope exists. Gene therapy, a treatment that directly corrects the underlying genetic cause of INAD has the potential to transform her future. This isn’t just treating symptoms, it’s about addressing the root cause of the disease.

<div>That’s where the <strong>INADcure Foundation</strong>, a nonprofit based in the United States, comes in. The INADcure Foundation is leading global efforts to<strong> develop the very first gene therapy for INAD</strong>, focusing on delivering a healthy copy of the PLA2G6 gene into the central nervous system. This investigational therapy aims to restore essential enzyme function and could potentially slow or halt disease progression giving children like Emily a real chance at life.

<div>The Foundation has already made remarkable strides, from preclinical proof-of-concept studies to building the scientific engine necessary to move toward clinical trials. But to reach that critical milestone where children can be treated safely in human trials, significant funding is still needed.

<div>Vă scriem cu inimile pline de iubire, durere și speranță pentru a împărtăși ceva ce niciun părinte nu își imaginează vreodată că va trebui să spună.

<div>Frumoasa noastră fiică, Emily, a fost cândva o fetiță veselă și plină de energie. Însă, în jurul vârstei de 16 luni, am început să observăm schimbări subtile, echilibrul ei s-a slăbit, cuvintele s-au rărit, pașii au devenit nesiguri. Fără să ne dăm seama, lumea pe care o știam s-a schimbat pentru totdeauna. Emily a fost diagnosticată cu Distrofie Neuroaxonală Infantilă (INAD), o boală neurodegenerativă rară și devastatoare, progresivă, cauzată de o mică mutație a genei PLA2G6, care afectează capacitatea organismului de a proteja celulele creierului. Această boală nemiloasă le răpește treptat copiilor capacitatea de a se mișca, de a vorbi, de a vedea și, în cele din urmă, chiar de a înghiți. În prezent, nu există niciun tratament sau leac aprobat.

<div>La fel ca multe familii care luptă cu această boală, refuzăm să ne pierdem speranța.

<div>Starea lui Emily este sfâșietoare, însă știința a ajuns într-un punct în care există o speranță reală. Terapia genică, un tratament care corectează direct cauza genetică a INAD are potențialul de a-i transforma viitorul. Nu este vorba doar despre tratarea simptomelor, ci despre abordarea cauzei de bază a bolii.

<div>Aici intervine<strong> Fundația INADcure</strong>, o organizație nonprofit cu sediul în Statele Unite. Fundația INADcure conduce eforturi globale pentru <strong>dezvoltarea primei terapii genice pentru INAD</strong>, <strong>concentrându-se pe livrarea unei copii sănătoase a genei PLA2G6 în sistemul nervos centra</strong>l. Această terapie aflată în stadiu de cercetare își propune să restabilească funcția esențială a enzimei și ar putea încetini sau opri progresia bolii oferind copiilor ca Emily o șansă reală la viață.
