Long Road Ahead

This GoFundMe page was started to help out a few people who have given so much to so many people, so it is time to give back to them in their time of need.

On January 24th, 2018, Richard Cameron was airlifted from his winter home away from home in Mesa, AZ to Phoenix with hematomas on his brain. This was preceded by multiple visits to ER and the doctor with falls and pain the previous weeks. Richard was told he would need surgery, but after multiple CTs, scans and tests it was determined the hematomas were not life threatening and would be left alone. Unfortunately, Richard’s health continued to decline and discharge to a nursing home for therapy continued to be postponed. On February 5th, after some sudden confusion, another CT scan was performed and new blood was found on his brain. Emergency surgery was performed within the hour which was extremely scary and dangerous. Luckily, Richard is under the care of one of the best neurologist hospitals in Arizona. The surgery was successful but it came with huge setbacks in Richard’s recovery. Richard was in ICU up until February 13th. He is still at the hospital in Phoenix and hopefully will be set to discharge to a nursing home this week for aggressive therapy for 17-20 days if all goes to plan before he is cleared and strong enough to fly home to MN.

As the news of Richard’s hematomas got to Minnesota, his daughter Terri caught the first flight down to Phoenix to be with him and her mother (Richard’s wife) Kathlean. She has been there ever since. Two of Richard’s grandsons came down on Jan. 31 to help pack up and sell their winter home (the beloved motorhome) and drive their vehicle and belongings back to MN. Since then, Terri and Kathlean have been renting a vehicle and staying with a cousin of Richard’s in Mesa—which is 50 miles one way—from the hospital where Richard is staying. When Richard had the risky brain surgery, Terri and Kathlean were able to rent a room out of someone’s home from AirBNB. It was not a desirable place to stay, but in a pinch they were able to be minutes from the hospital. They are now back in Mesa but also that much further away. Richard is planned to be discharged soon to a nursing home in Chandler, AZ which is still 30 min away from where Terri and Kathlean are staying.

We are asking for donations to help Terri and Kathlean with the costs of gas, rental car, food, and a renting a potential place to stay that is closer to where Richard will be at the nursing home. The stress of his health, the daily drive to be with him as much as possible, and the costs of everything else have brought on so much extra stress this is the least we can do to help them out. Please continue to pray for Richard and consider donating to help lessen the financial burden this has put on Terri and Kathlean.

Love and thanks, Jenny, Amanda & Alisha (granddaughters of Richard and Kathlean)
