Help Ricky Reach His Academic Goal!

Donation protected

Hey, everybody! We're here to talk to you about Ricky J. Marc, a young man who is finishing up his Juris Doctor and Master of Science in Sports Administration at St. Thomas University School of Law. Ricky is the eldest of four children and the proud son of two hardworking Caribbean immigrants. His life's goal is to repay them for everything they've sacrificed to ameliorate the conditions of their children, and ultimately make them proud. For more, visit rickyjmarc.com/bio.

From the time he was a child, Ricky wanted to become an attorney in order to stand up for and defend the voices too often being left by the wayside in society. The yolk of the oppressed continues to increase by the day, and Ricky has resolved himself to do everything within his power to stand as an advocate for them, no longer limiting this calling within our borders. Recent times have demanded more advocates, and solidarity is paramount to the continued unity of our people.

Today, the world is on fire. There is much uncertainty about what we once believed was peace in the world. We all have a role to play in a better world, and Ricky understands his. This is why he has willingly taken up leadership and service roles throughout his youth and adult career, whether it be as president of multiple student organizations in college or serving his country as a member of the White House Internship Program in the Spring of 2016. Ricky knows what must be done.

This desire for advocacy and leadership is why Ricky has been inspired to practice international human rights, civil rights, sports/entertainment, immigration, and business law upon receiving his license. As his mentor, State Senator Bobby Powell himself says often, "a life of service is a life that counts," and Ricky has always done what was necessary to put the needs of those around him before his own. Ricky's goal is to become the best son, sibling, spouse, citizen, and soul he can be.

But hard work and dedication to a particular craft is not without obstacles. At present, Ricky lacks the financial means to continue the process by which he seeks this academic goal. In 2018, he was pleased to know that he was accepted into a European Law LL.M. program offered by Université Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas, but due to unforeseen financial difficulties, he was forced to temporarily change course. Now, he seeks an M.A in Diplomacy and International Law. degree at the American University of Paris, beginning in Fall 2019.

Nevertheless, it has been said that there is no delay on destiny, and Ricky, with all his heart, believes this. We do too. This, we hope, is where you come in. Here is a reasonable cost estimate for a two-year period in which he will pursue this degree, complete a required internship/apprenticeship, and apply for a law license. Ricky wants to be as multifaceted an international attorney as he possibly can, because he understands that the more abilities he has, the more he can help.

There is a strange irony in realizing that the below numbers are similar to a single year stateside.

Here are our two-year calculations adjusted to the $-to-€ exchange rate.

$44,081.52 (Housing + Utilities x 24)
$23,215.52 (Food + Living/Emergency Expenses x 24)
$2,089.44 (Public Transit + Travel Expenses x 24)

Estimated Total: $69,386.48 (USD)

OUR APPEAL: Will you help Ricky reach his goal and use his abilities to complete his academic journey? U.S. financial aid will not cover this journey, and scholarships are lacking. Will you spare whatever you can for something good in this world?

There is no minimum on charity, and Ricky has always believed that when the masses are willing to come together around a common purpose, there is nothing that cannot be accomplished. If you know him like we do, you know Ricky is someone that never forgets to thank those that have helped him throughout his journey.

Please, give what you can.

Thanks!

P.S. All monetary amounts take into account the consistently fluctuating differences between the U.S. Dollar and the Euro, as well as potential unexpected emergency and auxiliary costs. Ricky has done his best to be an open book.
