Support Riverbed Reading Series 2020-21!

Finding community can be hard at any time, but the arts allow us the opportunity to reach across barriers and come together through creativity and curiosity. The first two iterations of Riverbed Reading Series were fantastic and we are honoured that so many of you were able to help support us in paying our artists and keeping the series going.

As we move through our first season in a world of social distancing and isolation, we are continuing our series online and are hoping that you can help to keep us going! When we first started our series we had intended to make up extra costs through community sponsorships, partnerships, and a PWYC cover charge at the door.

Though some of these options are no longer available to us, we hope that those of you who attend or those of you who simply want to help us foster this new space, will chip in what you can for the remainder of our debut year.

We are excited to bring you carefully curated iterations on a quarterly basis and the remainder of our year has so much in store for you!

Upcoming iterations to include:
-  Edgy live literary performances from Boston-based Lillian-Yvonne Bertram & Toronto-based Stedmond Pardy.
-  Live music from Ottawa-based Unsociably High.
- An evening of literary/musical curation from possible witch, definite bitch, and full time disaster Helen Robertson.

ABOUT US:

Riverbed Reading Series is co-curated by nina jane drystek, Ellen Chang-Richardson & Rachel Weldon. We are driven by the belief that the artistic spheres are connected; and aim to be an inclusive, experimental gathering space at the very intersection of literature, music and performance.

When we set out to start Riverbed Reading Series in Fall 2019, we hoped to bring the literary cabaret to life in Ottawa-Gatineau through the curation of events that met at the intersection of literature, music and performance. We imagined Club SAW (our venue partner for 2020) alive with conversation, community exchanges and the brilliance of our performers. We looked forward to welcoming everyone to our contemporary cabaret. Now with COVID-19 health restrictions on social gatherings keeping us apart, we can continue to gather in a different way to share in the arts and their power to help us carry through.

For this fundraiser we are asking our communities to contribute whatever they can, be it a few dollars or a few dozen! We believe that artists deserve to be paid for their work and it is our hope to break even on our costs for running and organizing this event. Artists and organizers across Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Turtle Island and the world are helping us through this stressful time, and will continue to do so as we reshape our world.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Riverbed and for contributing if you are able. No matter where you go after this webpage, we hope you continue to support artists and organizers wherever you may be.
