Ann Herbert is a life long Northeast Minneapolis resident. She attended Immaculate Conception Grade School. Ann is a Graduate from Edison High School class of1981. She is a Daughter, a Sister, a Aunt, a Mother, a Grandmother, a Friend, a Companion, a Leader, and a Precious Child of God.
Ann has been a warrior against the fight of ovarian cancer for the last 16 years and she has been a contributing participant of MOCA (Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance) over the years.
Ann was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2002. At that point she only had to have surgery. Ann returned to work 6 weeks later and resumed her normal life. Ann was in remission for the next 7 years.
In 2009 she had a reoccurrence of a mixed mullerian tumor which can be very life threatening. She needed surgery, chemotheraphy and radiation. During these treatments Ann resumed a pretty normal life and remained cancer free for the next 7 years.
In 2016 Ann had a 2nd
reoccurrence with many complications. Due to these complications Ann's treatment was delayed by 6 months. She ended up in the hospital for 19 days. She came home with an open wound, infection a picc line to be fed through for 8 weeks and a illiostomy.
This was an extremely challenging time for her but she prevailed and was able to start her treatment for the cancer. At the completion of her 6 chemotheraphy treatments Ann's cancer was in remission. However just a few months later the cancer reared its ugly head again in early 2017 for Ann only to have to start another round of treatment.
From July of 2016 through 12/29/17 Ann has completed 15 chemotheraphy treatments and is scheduled for another. The great news is that the treatment is working and Ann is slaying the dragon through her tremendous courage, strength, belief and faith in God. She knows that it is written in His word for her to live a long fullfilled life and to continue to love and enjoy the ones whom have supported, loved and shared in this journey with her.
Ann has a very loving and supportive family including two bright and beautiful grandchildren. Hailey who is 6 and is going to be a great leader, helper and maybe even a super star and Ryan who is 3 and is a comedian, storyteller and show stopper himself. Both are very loving and sensitive. Ann loves her Grandbabys to the moon and back. They bring great joy to her heart.
During 2016 and 2017 Ann has not been able to work. Ann had to put her career aside which she loved. Ann was a District manager for Wendy's and loved serving guest and training and developing people and she also loved the camaraderie she had with her peers and developed many life long friendships.
With Ann's work being put on hold, it brought changes to her benefits and insurance coverage which created some challenging situations such as very costly monthly premiums and astronomical out of the pocket expenses. This includes having an injection available to her while receiving chemotheraphy which cost between $20,000 and $25,000 in case of an allergic reaction. Ann is at a higher risk for a reaction with each treatment so it is required that it be available to her at these times. Ann is personally responsible for $4,335.64 for each time she receives treatment.
Ann has incurred approximately $30,000 and climbing in medical expenses. So if there is anything that you are able to do to lighten this financial burden she would be eternally grateful and blessed beyond measure.
