RISE of St George - Developing Well-Rounded Youth

Background

The Founders of RISE of Saint George, David Lenard and Aaron Edgley met in the Summer of 2020 at a town-hall meeting focused toward improving racial harmony within our small Southern Utah Community. They were concerned with how many and how often members of our community are met with racism, police brutality, poverty, homelessness, neglect and drug abuse.

David and Aaron were introduced to each other after the meeting, and became quick friends. In the spirit of listening and understanding, they committed to each other to continue the dialogue started at the town- hall.  Somewhere during the next few weeks, the idea was born to provide mentoring to youth in Southern Utah.

It had became clear that in addition to an official mentorship program, there was also a massive need within Saint George to provide an after school drop-in program for at-risk youth. Ideally, this would be a place where kids could go to have a few basic needs provided such as food, clothing, and a safe place to belong.

David introduced Aaron to Brandon Turner, another local youth advocate,  as he also expressed commitment and desire to help develop and oversee the program.

Through the trio's insight, background and networking, the framework for RISE of Saint George was created. The goal is to provide an evidence-based life skills program to at-risk youth. It is supported within a safe, positive and co-operative environment. We are confident that regular participation will enhance discipline, self-confidence and overall life functionality.

Key areas of focus include:

Life Skills

Financial Literacy

Education Reinforcement

Career Discovery

Physical and Emotional growth

There are dozens, if not hundreds of at-risk youth in Southern UT that would benefit from this type of setup.  Many of the existing institutions working with at-risk youth in our area are not setup to provide for the types of needs that Rise of Saint George will be able to provide.

Funds received will go towards providing for the long-term sustainability of our program, which we feel will most effectively be provided by needs based grants. There are many state and federal grants available for our organization, for the simple fact that nothing like this exists in Saint George.  We'll need to hire this out to someone with experience. This person will also be able to help us add to our already developed, state sanctioned evidence-based programming.

Another large need we are hoping address, will be that of the temporal needs of our participants. We envision having on site a robust wardrobe and food supply to provide to the youth that are needful for these things, and there are many.

After the completion of our donation drives, we'll continually be in need of non perishable food items, teenage size clothing, school supplies, desks, tables, chairs, couches, books, bookshelves & computers.

We recognize this is an ambitious ask, but we wouldn't unless we were certain we could help take care of the massive need that exists. We appreciate your help and generosity in this great work that means so much to us.
