MEET RIO

Rio is a 5 month old kitten with a twin sister who he loves very much. He loves exploring, belly rubs, food, and snuggling his sister and mama. When Rio is healthy, he is full of youthful energy and is adored by everyone he meets. Look at him cuddling his sister Tokyo!


WHY YOUR HELP IS NEEDED

In the past few days, Rio has not been himself. He has been vomiting, low on energy, has lost his appetite, and has been found hunched over in discomfort sitting by himself in the corner on several occasions. Rio somehow managed to find some sewing thread, and like the troublemaker that he is, ended up eating some. He was admitted today, 12/30, to a BluePearl Pet Hospital in Illinois where veterinarians confirmed the linear foreign body with ultrasound and delivered the news that he will need an emergency surgery to remove the thread immediately due to the life-threatening obstruction.

The cost to bring little Rio back to health and back to his family is estimated to be in the range of $8,000-$10,000.

Rio's mama, Emily, is a first-year medical student and a great friend to many. She has committed herself to a lifelong journey of healing and giving back to the community, which she has done through volunteerism and her involvement in various local organizations.

But now she needs our help. With COVID, moving for school, and the costs of medical education, this situation has placed tremendous financial and emotional strain on Emily.
