We want to generate enough funds from this epic contest to sponsor the equivalent of two young birders to attend the 2023 Rio Diablo Birding Camp in south Texas. The funds are applied to reduce entry costs for all participants and are not focused on two specific individuals. With enough fundraising, RDBC can welcome 12 young birders to experience the exceptional birdlife of south Texas at a very low cost.
WHEN: Saturday, April 23rd.
WAYS TO DONATE:
1. Make a species wager! Pledge a certain amount per bird species that we find. Our goal is to hit 200, so you do the math. Contact team members for more information.
2. Make donations to the GoFundMe portal.
3. Venmo donations to @zuguncrew.
3. For cash donations and other methods, contact the team, and one of us will arrange a way to get your funds to the camp.
4. Donations of any amount and in any form are welcome.

Many birders, including myself and members of this team, have had the opportunity to experience the quality teaching, exciting adventures, and fulfilling comradery that young birder camps have to offer for teens. Thanks to scholarships offered by my state ornithological society (GOS), I was able to experience two of these camps as a young birder, which completely changed my outlook on birding and motivated me to pursue the career I now have. That motivation carries on today more than ever in the form of this wild Georgia big day we are about to undertake again, seeking to break our previous record (196) and reach 200 species. This year, the team under the newly minted "Zugun-crew"* banner is giving back and contributing to the future generations of birders.
The Rio Diablo Birding Camp is a newer camp that shows participants some of the most unique ecosystems in the country. "From the sky islands of the Chisos and Davis Mountains to the gracefully rolling hills of the Edwards Plateau to the harsh yet beautiful brush country, participants should expect to enjoy a fascinating diversity of classic southwest Texas ecosystems." However, the fundamental mission of this camp is to make prices as affordable as possible to provide equal opportunity for young birders and their families. Eliminating as many obstacles as possible for those interested in learning about the world of birding and nature is of utmost importance.
Feel free to contact any team members with questions, and wish us luck!
*Zugunruhe = a term for migratory restlessness in birds.
