Hi, my name is Alma Ochoa, I recently found out my kidneys are not working properly. I am still a full time senior college student (Spec Ed), with two jobs that had to stay on hold due to this health issue.

About three weeks ago I got sick with what I thought was an ulcer (due to a wrong diagnosis and sight of blood in fluids), I ended up at an emergency room in Mexico to avoid high health care charges, only to find out it was a common intestine infection. Due to the doctors' precautions, they suggested a blood chemistry test (perfil bioquimico) to be taken. They then gave me the good news that I didnt have an ulcer in me, but high creatinine levels, and urea were found on the blood test so that had to be monitored at once.
After a few days I was asked to retake the test along with a common urine general test. The gastroenterologist I was seeing told me the tests were still showing very high levels, proving my kidneys are working only 1/3 of their full capacity. I was then redirected to a nephrologist who explained to me that the issue is located at my glomerulus and a diagnosis added loss of protein, blood in urine along with the elevation of creatinine and urea.
I was then asked to do 17 lab tests (some repeated to continue monitoring creatinine and protein loss) to seek or discard different diseases, and a biopsy on one of my kidneys. I am now waiting on four different results from that biopsy, so far I am in debt with my family and hospital, and I have spent a considerable amount of money I was saving for after graduation.
Only by doctors appointments, emergency room, lab tests, and biopsy I have spent around $130,000 mexican pesos (about $6900 USD). And I am yet waiting on results to start a treatment, which I dont know how much more I'll have to spend.
I feel shame on having to ask you, my friends for help, but I am scared on what it is to come. I graduate next month, with it, I'll lose one of my jobs, and student debt will kick in soon. Rent, car insurance and services will be due next month, so I feel a lot of pressure right now.
I thank y'all for your help, whether it's with a contribution, by sharing with friends, or sending good vibes. I also wanna thank my family for always having my back, and my nephrologist who helped me by not charging me his services during the biopsy. I have no words for your generosity.

Hace aproximadamente tres semanas me enferme de una infección intestinal muy fuerte que en un principio fue mal diagnosticada como una posible ulcera, por esta razón decidí venir a Mexico, pues no tengo seguro medico y cualquier tratamiento es mas barato en Mexico. Al llegar fui enviada a la sala de Emergencia, donde los doctores recomendaron que me hiciera un perfil bioquímico para revisar mi salud en general. Afortunadamente la infección intestinal no paso a mayores, pero los doctores notaron niveles altos de creatinina, urea y ácido ureico en la sangre, por lo que me recomendaron esperar unos días a sanar la infección intestinal y volver a hacerme el perfil bioquímico, ademas de un examen general de orina.
Al regresar con el Gastroenterólogo, el y mi tío que es Cardiólogo, confirmaron que los niveles seguían altos y significaban un problema grave en los riñones. Haciendo un calculo con mis datos físicos, se determino que mis riñones estaban trabajando a solo 1/3 de su capacidad total y que necesitaba darle seguimiento al problema de inmediato. Me recomendaron con un Nefrólogo para un mejor diagnostico.
El Nefrólogo me dio un diagnostico de perdida de proteína, sangre en la orina, alto nivel de creatinina y urea. El me pidió hacerme 14 pruebas de laboratorio (ademas de las que ya había hecho, y repitiendo algunas para evitar errores), y una biopsia. Los resultados de las pruebas dan buenas señales y noticias, descartando enfermedades graves, pero dejándonos aun con dudas de diagnostico y en espera para un tratamiento correcto.
Decidí crear esta pagina pues entre consultas, hospital, biopsias (4 pruebas), y exámenes de laboratorio, me he gastado ya mas de $130,000 pesos, dejándome sin mis ahorros de graduación, y en deuda con mi familia y banco, y con una incertidumbre de que seguirá pasando en los días siguientes.
Me da pena tener que acudir a ustedes para ayudarme, pero al estar fuera de mis trabajos por casi un mes, a punto de graduarme y empezar a pagar mis prestamos escolares, ademas de la renta y otros gastos generales, he sentido miedo por lo que esta por venir.
Quiero agradecerles a todos ustedes, ya sea por sus donaciones, por compartir la pagina, por escribirme, mandar buenas vibras, rezar o cualquier ayuda que he recibido. No tengo palabras para demostrarles lo agradecida que estoy.
