Dear Friends,
I am writing to you on the second anniversary of my tumor attack.
As many of you know, I have been writing a cancer chronicle about my glioblastoma to help others understand this aggressive and terminal disease.
In the aftermath of my attack, I could not find any references about it except for clinical descriptions and research papers … and ghastly images on-line. Initially, I was desperate to find some inkling of hope in my dire malady.
From the start of my writing, it was my intention to help others as a remedy for this dearth of information – not a dismal and dark tale but one filled with hope, humor, and a very personal perspective. Along the way, I have met with many medical students through our nearby Cancer Centers (UVA and Augusta Health) and have spoken at length with medical professionals, spiritual leaders, and colleagues around the world. From the start, I donated the research rights to my tissues and have gladly opened my medical files with the hope that others will benefit from their study.
I have just signed a contract with a publishing house that will require a modest investment, but still beyond my means, to complete a co-publishing venture. Toward that end, I am honored that an international group of friends and supporters has established a crowd funding campaign to make its publication a reality. We have set goals for the project, detailed below, with the first installment due to the publisher in two months. The tentative publication date for A Pearl in the Brainis June 20, 2019.
I am reaching out to you to ask with all humility for your assistance at any level of help.  Feel free to use your own social media sources to help me to publish my cancer saga.

                                                               With an ever grateful heart,

                                                               H. Bruce Rinker

Fundraising Goals:
Phase I:
·      Raise $3000 by mid-November 2018 in order to proceed with the publishing contract.
·      Raise $4000 by February 2019 in order to complete the publishing contract.
·      The total sum of $7000 for Phase I will include the costs of line editing, copy-editing, cover wrap, interior layout and design, ISBN assignment, all production for distribution of soft cover and e-book, and a marketing program. As soon as we reach this very reasonable goal, we will launch the book’s publication.

Phase II:
·      Raise $8000 by June 2019 to include funding for a Spanish translation of the text, domestic and international book promotion, promotional copies to medical centers, schools, caregivers and others.
·      If the total raised exceeds $14,500, then we will make donations in Bruce’s name to the Emily Couric Neuro-Oncology Cancer Center (Charlottesville, VA) and the Augusta Health Cancer Center (Fishersville, VA).
