Riley's Surgery (Tumor Removal)

Riley is a 14 year old Bichon Frise. He is a very loving dog and full of energy despite his age. About a month ago, I discovered a lump on his nose and got that tested at the vet. Sadly, I found out that it was a cancerous tumor. Today I had X-rays done for him to check to see there were any areas or tumors spotted in his other organs. He came out clear of any abnormalities and is ready to take the next step in performing a biopsy to test the grade level of cancer. This is important so that the vet can determine how much of the area they can work around, since the nose is such a small and delicate area to remove tissue from. After that, we will schedule the surgery and proceed to remove the tumor. It is in a tricky area so surgery will not be cheap. The vet gave me an estimated bill that ranges from $396-$458 for the biopsy (This will determine the grade level of cancer) and for the removal surgery it will range around $2,450-$2,768.75.
Riley still has a lot of life left in him.  He loves to eat, play, and snuggle.  Anyone that knows about Riley knows he is really protective of me.  He has always been my side no matter what.  Growing up he was always the pet I could talk to, as silly as it sounds, he has helped me through tough times in my life so I want to return him the favor and  get rid of this irritating tumor on his nose.   I  want him to live out a long and happy life.  I have been Riley's loving owner ever since I got him as a child and he has a special place in my heart. I love him dearly and want to give him the best life as possible.
There is a possible chance that the growth can return depending on the grade level, but left untreated it can grow and become a greater problem to his overall health. The goal is to get it out while it is small so it doesn’t cause him further issues with his nose and breathing.

I have already invested around $700 in his X-Rays, tests and consultations. Sadly, I do not have the amount of funds to pay off this surgery without adding to my student loan debt.

My ideal goal is to schedule his surgery by the first week in December with the vets availabilty, if not we will have to wait til the end of December.

I will add updates on this page on his surgery progress and current status.
