Riley's Journey...

I have known Melissa before Riley was even born. I asked Melissa if I could start this page a couple years ago when Riley was fighting her 4th recurrence but needed to change the focus of the families needs due to recent events. For almost 11 years Riley has been fighting recurrent brain tumors - Medulloblastoma. The last scan they had showed that the tumors have spread into her brain stem. There are no further treatments available to her and the hardest decision a parent should ever have to make was made - to call in hospice to assist with preparing for her transition.  Financial needs are not medical, they are strictly personal. Melissa's husband works on a rig - where he travels out of state for 2 weeks at a time and then is home for 2 weeks.  This job does not allow vacation or sick time - as they expect this should happen on their time off. Yes, he qualifies for FMLA but FMLA is unpaid & they solely rely on his income  - as Melissa has been Riley's caretaker for the most part of 9 years. No parent should have to worry about whether their bills are going to be taken care of while facing what this family is facing. They are already worried about him making it home in time, if things change drastically...not to mention Melissa handling all this on her own while he's at work.  Please consider giving as much or as little as you can & helping lift some of the burden off of this dear family.
