Riding 1300km for World Bicycle Relief

Hi, my name is Kristian Kjaer. I am a 16-year-old student from Queensland Australia drawn towards the idea of pushing beyond my personal boundaries and the uncertainty that is such a big part of ultra-endurance sport.
On the 22nd of September I set out on a 1300km unsupported, offroad bikepacking journey to Sydney. That means, carrying all of my camping supplies, clothes, water and myself for that matter of fact - through some of the most rural parts of the Australian Great Dividing Range.
As a keen cyclist, I am well aware of the joy that riding a bike brings and could not even begin to imagine the impact a bike could have on someone far less privileged than myself. Therefore, in what will undoubtedly be the most ambitious personal challenge I have ever set myself I have made it my goal to raise as much money as possible for World Bicycle Relief.
World Bicycle Relief is a non-profit organisation which distributes bikes to people living in rural areas in developing countries where the main mode of transport is walking.
The money raised through this fundraiser helps to provide specially designed, locally assembled bicycles to students, healthcare workers, and entrepreneurs in rural Africa; connecting them with education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
World Bicycle Relief has impressive statistics of the difference bicycles make to the communities they distribute to:
- Student attendance increases by 28%
- Academic performance by 59%
- Healthcare workers can reach 45% more patients
- Farmers' income increases by 23%
