Bike Ride for Alex

This is Alex.
He is the son of two of my good friends Jill and Dave. Alex was born on February 24th, 2012. At birth, he was not breathing on his own and had an extremely low heart rate. Alex was diagnosed with HIE (lack of oxygen to the brain) and, over the next month in the NICU, the diagnosis expanded to include CP, seizures and a strong potential for severe learning disabilities.
Alex is living at home now, but has frequent visits to the hospital for various tests and treatments. He is making some incredible progress. Alex is beginning to sit up and verbalize with people around him. He's very happy and loves playing with Mom and Dad and Crinkles the Elephant (the one in the picture).
As you can imagine, the medical bills are quite steep. As of this writing, they are nearing $350,000. Insurance covers a large percentage, but the out of pocket cost is well over $10,000.
So that's where you and I come in.
This June, I'll be riding my bicycle from Los Angeles, California to Stillwater, Minnesota, and back in order to help raise awareness and, hopefully, some funds for my little friend, Alex.
$10,000? I think it's a good start.
