Patriot Charity Ride to White House

Donation protected
I'm just a guy that likes to do good for others and ride my bicycle. When I can do both, that's just Awesome! I am asking for your help in support of my June 2016 solo unsupported 5-day bicycle trip from Atlanta to Washington DC  during which I am raising money for the MS Society.  I am only asking for help with trip expenses. I will donate any excess funds not used for the Ride to DC to the MS Society through my Georgia MS cycling team Amy's Armor . Once in DC, I will be sworn in before the  full US Supreme Court as a Supreme Court Bar attorney - that is one of those big milestones for some attorneys. It's significant to me. My attorney Grandad Arthur would be proud.

Being thankful and appreciative  is also very important to me.  As a Return Peace Corps Volunteer, I plan to deliver a 'note of thanks' to the White House, during the tour set up by my Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson's office (Thank you Johnny!), in appreciation of the Oval Office's support and continued existence of the Peace Corps. Originally an agency created by President Kennedy, the Peace Corps, still exists, keeps a low profile and is a powerhouse of an organization doing great works worldwide.

As a mid-1990s Peace Corps Volunteer, the work I did in foreign service for my Country directly lead me toward becoming a lawyer - and I (surprisingly) became an attorney because I had served in the Peace Corps. Doing good for others and making a better world by doing good is what the Peace Corps taught me.
This bicycle trip to DC is my way to express gratitude back to the place where the Peace Corps Agency started.

Trip Budget of $3000 for ATL to DC Solo Bike Ride:
Hotels (w/ breakfast Incl.) at average $160/night x 4 nights on road + 3 nights in DC = $1120
Food at $20/meal x 7 days x 2 meals/day  = $280
Bicycle maintenance, repairs = $150
Return flight, one-way DC-ATL for = $300
Bicycle hard case for airline bike shipment = $350
Shipping expenses for sending forward packages of needed supplies to hotel stops and the destination in DC = $300
Miscellaneous for unexpected = $500
Optional:  GoPro 4 camera to record/share ride = $400

The budget has wiggle room, there are unknown expenses, the GoPro is optional and not totaled into the budget, and the $20/meal estimate is probably inaccurate as I eat like a horse when I'm on a long-distance bike tour. Again, I will donate any excess funds not used for the Ride to DC to the MS Society through my Georgia MS cycling team Amy's Armor.

Having ridden two-300+ mile solo bike rides in the last two years and a two-month cross-USA solo bike tour in 1994, this 700 mile trip will not be my first time on a long solo road bike ride.

The exciting differences for this Bike Ride to DC are that I'll be riding without bike-bags (no saddlebags or panniers), on a light carbon fiber bicycle and riding up to 150 miles/day. I've been regularly training for this ride. Technology now can allow you, the supporter to follow the training and the trip on Facebook, through the Strava app and through the communication tools here at GoFundMe.

I will keep everyone up to date as fundraising continues. I thank you for your support; it's quite moving, literally, actually. Come along! I promise this will be an exciting adventure. Kindest regards,
Robert
