RIDE WITH RICHTER

Donation protected

16 year old AJ suffered a devastating spinal cord injury while mountain biking in Hornsby on 2 October 2019. He is an experienced and skilful rider who was training for a National MTB race in Maydena, Tasmania in November.  Following AJ’s accident his mates called an ambulance and paramedics rushed him to Royal North Shore Hospital. His family received the tragic news that he had fractured his C5 vertebrae and required emergency surgery to stabilise his spinal cord.

AJ unfortunately had many complications and spent a total of 50 days in intensive care being looked after by an expert and caring team. He is still in hospital regaining strength and being closely monitored. Throughout this trauma he has remained positive, showing amazing dignity and resilience.

The injury has caused paralysis below the chest. AJ is able to use his shoulders, elbows and wrists.

Alex may never walk again however we will never give up hope. He remains positive and is working hard every day.

Alex is a year 12 student who is studying for his HSC and would ideally like to graduate with his cohort in 2020.

We are so grateful for the huge amount of support provided over the last 7 weeks by our family, friends and the community as we journey through this devastating accident.
