Ride for Tumaini

Donation protected
Welcome to my Fundraising page! 100% of what I make here will go to the nonprofit organization (I will cover my own expenses including food, travel, etc...). My goal is to bike across the United States riding The Great Divide mountain bike route to raise money for Tumaini Miles of Smiles. The Great Divide is a bike route that goes from Antelope Wells, New Mexico (at the border) to Banff, Alberta in Canada. That comes to 2,774 miles of mostly dirt and gravel roads, while crossing the continental divide 32 times and includes 200,000 ft. of elevation gain- the equivalent of climbing Everest 7X. I intend to leave at the end of May, 2018 and finish in a little over a month. Afterwards I will travel to Kenya to visit Tumaini  and spend time there.

As for Tumaini Miles of Smiles, it is a nonprofit organization located in Malava, Kenya (near Nairobi). Tumaini functions as an orphanage/school, providing a home, education, and love to children who have been orphaned, abused, or neglected. They also make efforts to help women affected by  AIDS.

Here is how Rose (Director) describes it:
"Founded in the year 2004, with a calling to give hope and help the underprivileged, deprived and vulnerable members of the society, especially children. TMSC has a special place in its objective for the orphaned, abandoned, abused, homeless, desperate and neglected children regardless of their religion, sex, color or tribe, who have nowhere to call home and no one to care for them. Each year TMSC becomes a home and a hope to many little, lovely ones. We also give hope to poor women and widows devastated by the impact of HIV/AIDS in the community. TMSC believes that every human being has a right to the fundamentals of life i.e food, water, shelter, literacy and medical attention. TMSC is basically an organization and non-political targeting its resources at the most vulnerable and impoverished people in rural areas."

I went to Tumaini over the summer of 2017 on a mission trip with International Sports Federation, to help run a VBS and a soccer tournament for the kids. It is a beautiful place with some of the most amazing people who devote so much time to making sure the kids who attend are loved and taken care of. Then the summer before I went to Tumaini I attempted to bike the Divide but only did the New Mexico section. I wasn't happy with putting in so much and money to doing something that was for me. I wanted to be able to do it for something greater than myself and for something I was passionate about and loved. Tumaini is a great organization and perfectly embodies what it means to love ones neighbor. I hope to raise money for them to help them continue their ministry and bring in more kids to Tumaini where they can have their basic needs met and can be loved on. The money will go to buying these kids food and providing them with clean water. It will also be used to build a new nursery, which right now is a small mud hut. It will also be used to help women within the community affected by HIV/AIDS. Money will be put towards helping the kids further their education beyond Tumaini, on to high school and even college.
