Ride for Climate Rights

Donation protected
With so many human-centered catastrophes in 2020, it’s been easy to overlook the climate crisis. But, for many of us in San Francisco, the influx of wildfire smoke this fall has reminded us that the effects of climate change are more present than ever. Even worse, lower income communities suffer disproportionately from these consequences. The NRDC has been fighting for the rights of all Americans for over 50 years with landmark legislation like the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, and they are still working today to make sure these laws are fairly enforced in communities like Flint, MI. The NRDC has also been busy preventing fossil fuel extraction on public (and indigenous) lands, and helping communities build infrastructure to prepare for the inevitable impacts of climate change. It goes without saying, but there is so much more work for them to do.

Alex and I are lucky to work for an amazing company that promotes social justice and volunteerism. Cisco has generously offered to match $25,000 PER EMPLOYEE to qualified charities this calendar year. Cisco also has given us TWO weeks of Volunteer Time Off to take action to make our community and world a better place.

We can’t let Cisco’s offer expire. We will ride our bicycles 265 miles from San Francisco to San Luis Obispo December 17-23 to raise money for the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC) to support climate justice. Every dollar we raise will be go the NRDC Action Fund, and will be matched 1:1 by Cisco.
Look, we know this year has felt like one charity request after the next. Between pandemic unemployment, struggling businesses and election campaigns, all our wallets feel lighter. If you are in a place where you can donate $5 or even $10, we would so appreciate it. If you can give more, we’d like to up the ante a little bit!

If you can give:

$25 - we will write a letter to your Senator requesting climate action on your behalf

$50 - we will write you a personalized postcard from the road

$265 ($1 per mile) - we will send you a custom designed bike jersey!

Time is running out for us to take Cisco up on their $50,000 matching offer this year. Time is also running out for communities impacted by pollution, fires, and sea rise. We hope you can help us support the NRDC before it’s too late.
