Help Keep Ricky Out of a Wheelchair & Help Wendy Beat Cancer!!  We can do this!!!

Our dear friend Ricky Coles, husband and father of two precious daughters, was diagnosed at the age of 46 with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS) in October, 2015.  Ricky has gone from a very active lifestyle with his family & friends to not being able to walk without a cane. He has been an avid runner, loves playing volleyball and is always the guy offering to help with anything you need. He has had a smile on his face with a positive attitude through this journey and has not let the cane stop him. PPMS is characterized by worsening neurologic function (accumulation of disability) from the onset of symptoms.

Although there is no treatment in the United States for PPMS, other countries (Russia, Mexico, and China) have been treating PPMS patients with Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) since the 1990s.  Wait times to get into one of these programs can take up to two years.  Ricky just got the GREAT news that he has been accepted into the program in Moscow, Russia. He will start the 5-6 week treatment process on May 10, 2016. He is very excited and holding out hope of not ever needing a wheelchair!

He needs a caregiver with him during this treatment process. Although his wife, Wendy, would be the first to go with him, she is fighting her own battle with breast cancer. She was  diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer on December 21, 2015. She is in the last phase of her chemotherapy treatments and is not permitted to travel.  She is his most enthusiastic cheerleader and has an infectious “We can do this!” attitude, right along with Ricky’s!  Ricky and Wendy are fighting alongside each other and FOR each other. The love they have for each other and their two beautiful daughters keeps them strong!

Ricky and Wendy are grateful, excited and hopeful for all that lies ahead of them! It is a battle both are taking on with great courage! Wendy will beat cancer and Ricky is positive this HSCT will keep him out of a wheelchair!! In support of this precious family, we are asking friends and family for prayers and donations. Ricky’s HSCT treatment alone is $45,000.00 , none of which will be covered by insurance. Airfare, lodging, meals, Visas and all other expenses involved in this journey will be the responsibility of Ricky and Wendy personally.  With the prayers and support of everyone…“We can do this!”!!!!

Ricky, Wendy, Kailea and Jaden…WE CAN DO THIS!!!
