Rick's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Rick is a hard working father of 4 and grandfather of 7 and the primary bread winner of the family. Those who have the privillege of knowing Rick will know that he is about as hard working and determined as they come. A man of few words who has worked the past 7 years away from his family without a single sick day. After much pestering from his wife and children Rick was convinced to go and see a doctor about his walking which had gotten progressively worse for the last 12 months. After this initial doctors appointment  a growth was found inside his spinal cord something so rare that the lead neuro surgeon had never seen anything like it before. On the 6th of December, Rick had spinal cord surgery due to the mass found inside his spinal cord, following surgery Rick was doing well and had gained mobility to the point he was walking unassisted. The 23rd of December he was discharged from Townsville hospital to which we drove home( not him driving) stopping along the way Rick seemed to be losing mobility to the point he needed assistance in walking, we put this down to travel and gave it a few days to recover, however that wasn’t the case on the 27th Rick was transferred by ambulance to the Cairns Base to where he was assessed and was taken for an MRI which showed his spinal cord swollen and needing attention. On the 2nd of January royal flying doctors transferred him back to Townsville to be reassessed by the neurosurgery team. Unfortunately the outcome was not as expected although the result of the biopsy came back inconclusive there is evidence that this tumour is live and progressing. More surgery is out of question as it is to risky. Today we got a name for this tumour “Glioblastoma” yes it’s Cancer. Therefore the road to recovery is far from over. He’s currently in Cairns Base Hospital waiting for the swelling around his spinal cord to go down before he starts an aggressive course of radiation therapy in an effort to shrink the cancer. The rest is just a waiting game for Rick and his family. Anyone who knows Rick can tell you that he’s one of the most generous men around, he’d give you his last dollar without a second thought and has spent most of his adult life time helping out anyone he could. The aim of this page is to raise the money needed to buy a wheelchair and assist with all other assets of adjusting to his current circumstances. Any and all donations will be beyond appreciated by Rick, Tracy and his entire family. Thank You all for your support and well wishes during to this difficult time.
