Rick Roth Needs Our Help

Donation protected

Rick grew up in Hopewell/Aliquippa, PA.  One morning while cutting the grass, he had a terrible accident. He lost 4 fingers and became partially disabled at the young age of 17. Despite his disability, he continued to work. He was awarded partial disability at that time, but did not take it. He was strong and wanted to work.

At age 20, he was living in Virginia Beach, VA when he became paralyzed from the neck down from Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS). My parents brought him home from VA Beach to their home in PA.  Against all odds, he was able to go back to work for the next 27 years. He worked, supported his family, and had a home in Knott’s Island.

At age 47, his right hand, where he lost his fingers, turned into a club hand. Suddenly stroke-like symptoms began to appear on his right side including the dragging of his leg. Trembling started. He couldn’t drive, and panic attacks started to set in.

Rick filed for disability in 2013. It took 4 ½ years for his case to go to court and he was denied in October 2016. The results of an MRI he had in 2013 did not qualify him for disability.

Upon further investigation in 2017, it was determined that his MRI from 2013 was misdiagnosed. The correct diagnosis is Corticobasal Degeneration. The life span of someone with Corticobasal Degenerative Disease is 6-8 years, from onset. Rick has had this disease since 2011. The symptoms are similar to those of ALS and there is no cure.

He applied for disability again and was still denied, even though Corticobasal Degenerative Disease is on the list of diseases qualifying a person for disability. The system has failed Rick.

Rick has a wife Lori, and two daughters, Briana and Sammie – ages 24 and 16. He lost everything due to his inability to work and has tried for the last 6 years to get help. Lori is currently working 3 jobs and Sammie is working 2 jobs to support the family.

Rick and his family need help. If you find it in your heart to help, please give to our fund.

God Bless You All and Thank you,

Lori, Briana and Sammie
