Rick Harsch Medical Bills

Donation protected
Those of you who know my father Rick Harsch know he can be a tightly wound person to put it mildly, but at his core he is a man who has a ton of love to share and will help anyone in his path if he has the ability. To that extent my Aunts and I have decided to launch a Go Fund Me campaign to help cover his medical expenses so that is one less thing for him to stress over during the recovery process.

Where we stand if you haven't heard the news or story yet.  Tuesday morning I took my Dad in for what should have been routine shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff.  After the shoulder procedure was complete is when complications began. I received a call around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday from the doctors who performed the operation that they would be transporting him to the ER at Memorial Hermann across the street due to his blood pressure being unstable and fear of him having a stroke. In the ER matters deteriorated further. Here they discovered a small mass on his brain, which lead us to be transported into the Neurology ICU. The Doctors believe this is not the cause of his issues after running tests, and with any luck it may be a non-issue all together (to be determined). After determining this was not the issue, they sent him to Heart & Vascular wing where they tested his heart for blockages and we were fortunate enough to get a clean bill there. No blockages and heart looked good. The doctors have also done multiple swabs of his lungs, but due to him being on antibiotics they are having difficulty growing a specimen in the lab and pinpointing precisely what may be ailing him.

The diagnosis we have been given is Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, but doctors still can’t pinpoint exactly what caused this to happen, and they say a myriad of issues could be causing the slow and tedious recovery process.

Nearly a week later and Dad remains in Neurology ICU. He is less sedated every day and has begun to breathe on his own, but remains connected to the assisted breathing machine to assist his lungs and not put too much stress on his body. We hope to have the machine removed in the next few days.

Currently we are attempting to limit visitation to strictly immediate family as the ICU isn’t a floor to have multiple visitors and he needs his rest to assist in the recovery. Prayers, well wishes and good vibes are all welcomed and highly encouraged, and if you have the ability to donate a few dollars to assist in covering his medical expenses we would be eternally gratefully and in your debt. We appreciate all the phone calls, texts and Facebook messages we’ve see regarding Rick Harsch. In lieu of flowers we ask that you donate to this campaign. Keep it going Prayer Warriors and Team Rick!!
