But for a small place like the Galápagos Islands whose economy depends almost entirely on tourism, whole communities and families have been struck harder than ever with tragedy and hardship. How do we know who will receive the relief funds?
The Galápagos is an area of little more than 30,000 inhabitants off the coast of Ecuador. It is a tight-knit community with generations of families living, working, thriving, and trying to survive on the gorgeous archipelago.

Because the area is so small and tightly knit, your donations to our Galápagos relief fund will go directly to the mayor’s (alcalde) office of San Cristóbal. The municipality holds a list of families in need. In this way, your donations to our Galápagos relief fund can restore the Galápagos by helping the families who need it most.

What do your donations for the Galápagos relief fund go towards?
When your donations are received by the municipality of San Cristóbal, they will be converted into certificates for use at grocery stores and local markets.

The purchase of alcohol is excluded when using these certificates. We will not be promoting any vices or harmful activity with your Galápagos relief fund donations.

By using certificates instead of cash deposits or handouts, we ensure the relief funds are used positively and support not only families in need, but also local businesses.
