Rick Cape medical fund

This is my son in law, Rick.

For five years now he has been in and out of the ER and has had many hospital stays,

A mystery illness that no doctor seems capable of diagnosing, much less treating-- an illness that includes violent and constant vomiting, severe and debilitating nausea, and pain in the upper abdominal region-- often renders him unable to eat or drink for days and eventually leaves him dangerously dehydrated. The ER will stabilize him via IV medication (which just knocks him out, paired with fluids to rehydrate him) and then send him home only for us to have no choice but to return in a few hours after the intravenous drugs wear off, when the symptoms simply return. The episodes will stop, but always return within months, weeks, sometimes even days, as it is now becoming more and more frequent and the episodes are lasting longer and longer.

He has seen Gi specialists, neurologists, psychologists and many primary care doctors.

He was diagnosed with Cyclic vomiting syndrome but did not get relief from the normal treatments given to it, so doctors have begun to doubt that that’s what it is.   He had his gallbladder removed a little more than two weeks ago and we all had very high hopes that would be the culprit. But the episodes have since returned.

Now he is on another new medication, and will hopefully be going to one of the Academic centers in Dallas or San Antonio for more tests.

I could go on and on, about all the stuff he’s gone through, with no no real diagnosis to show for it.

As you can imagine, this most recent episode (having lasted for several weeks now) has put him out of work. Without that income, paired with the many doctor, ER, and hospital bills-- well, it’s getting out of control. Just trying to have the necessities to live day to day-- groceries, utility bills, gas for the car, basic supplies--  is becoming extremely difficult.  While we’re working on putting short term disability into motion through his work, that will only be 60% or so of his income-- still not enough to make up for where we are bleeding funds. So, I have started this go fund me in hopes of reaching out.

Any amount you can give will be helpful, even just a few dollars. If you cannot donate, then shares are also appreciated to spread the word. Thank you.
