Karen's Last Big Wish

As many of you know, my sister, Karen Hurtig Wright, has cancer. She has been going through chemo and is currently on her 2nd round. This treatment won’t cure her, but will buy some time. She will be done with this round in July, after which I would like to help her and her husband take a special trip. She has been so brave through this. Her sense of humor and positive attitude never seem to waver, and she is still ready to help her friends and family when needed.

This journey has also been very tough for her husband, Rick. He is right there in the trenches, witnessing her struggles and doing whatever it takes to make things “okay”. He is, in short, her hero.

What do they need? They are planning to drive an RV down the California coast to San Diego where their granddaughter lives, and visit relatives and friends along the way. The RV will be the best way to travel as Karen can rest comfortably on the trip. She will have been done with chemo for close to a month and will be up for the adventure, but having the RV will make traveling easier. The RV will cost $4,928.04 for 16 days, and they will need money for gas, mileage, and RV parking fees. Our goal is $6,500.00.

This will be a chance for Karen and Rick to enjoy some time with each other, away from the doctors, the chemo and the grind of fighting this battle. In 20 years, they have never taken a vacation together, and this is probably their last chance to make some happy memories.
