Truer words could not be spoken when discussing our dear friend, Rich McGovern, or you might know him as "HayStax". An avid Mets and Jets fan, Rich has spent ten years commuting to the great city he loves for his work in construction. Without complaint, Rich is early to rise on a daily basis at 3:30 a.m. to walk his beloved Cairn Terrier, Stax. A cross in paths while walking his prized terrier is what brought this wonderful man into our lives ten years ago. He is not only my father's dearest friend, he is a part of our family.
Two years ago, Rich lost his beloved wife, Virginia. Despite experiencing some of life's greatest travesties, he has remained as positive as he seemingly can in the face of adversity.
For those of you who aren't aware of recent events, our dear friend Rich has fallen ill and despite his admittance, he needs us more than ever. He is currently facing the ultimate battle; one for his life, in the form of a cancer recurrence.
Malignant Melanoma which has remerged after three years has been found to have metastasized his lymph nodes, lung, and brain. He recently underwent brain surgery to remove one of multiple brain tumors under the care of his amazing team of physicians at Columbia Presbyterian in NYC.
It would be quite easy to turn your back on life with this diagnosis. But not Rich. He is determined to fight for himself and his family. He strives to continue to care for his 92 year old mother. Unfortunately a month back Rich was involved in a car accident in which another driver caused the total wreckage of his car. This along with monthly mortgage payments while he remains out of work, along with vast medical bills which are only just beginning, can add immense stress to already trying circumstances. Rich will soon begin radiation and chemotherapies.
It is my hope that by sharing this brief story on behalf of our dear friend, we can help to alleviate some of the tensions that Rich faces financially. This way he can focus on the matter at hand... his health! All donations are greatly appreciated as we gather in stride to help Rich fight this battle!
